This class teaches and reviews the sounds of American English, practices their accurate articulation, and introduces the students to the IPA transcription system.
In addition, the basics of English grammar and the major contrasts to German grammar will receive a major focus in the second half of the semester.
There will be a written and an oral exam. Depending on the number of students, the written exam will take place in the third or second to last week of classes while the oral exams are done in pairs in slots of 20 minutes during the last two weeks of classes.
Students have to pass both parts to pass the class. The failed contingent can be retaken in the following semester in conjunction with the new groups' exams.
